Science fiction short films that explore indigenous issues and place-based themes.
For Place in Space, students created science-fiction short films that explore place and/or contemporary indigenous issues. With professional help from The Cinematheque, students wrote, shot, edited, and starred in their own films. These students' films were inspired by a study of two works of indigenous science-fiction: Cherie Dimaline's The Marrow Thieves, and Drew Hayden Taylor's Take Us to Your Chief and Other Stories. Thank you to Drew Hayden Taylor and the many other guests who visited our school to share their expertise. These films were made on the lands of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw, and in many cases, by young people who share this ancestry.
C.A.R.E.N. 3000
A group of indigenous teens are sick of being racially profiled at their favourite thrift store. When the store goes fully automated, they hope things will change for the better. But if it doesn't, they are prepared to stand up for what's right...
